Fabric Care

Canvas

Our Manaslu and Api backpacks are made of strong 600g cotton canvas which is only very lightly treated with natural wax. This means that the canvas fabric is not 100% waterproof and if exposed to strong sunlight for extended periods of time the colour will be bleached, giving your bag a beautiful individuality over time. If you require your backpack to be more weatherproof, we recommend proofing it with natural beeswax. Simply place a bar of wax in the microwave until soft then rub into the fabric where the weatherproofing is needed. Finally use a hairdryer or an iron (with greaseproof paper) to completely melt the wax and allow it to fully impregnate the canvas fibres. Re-waxing will also help to restore the backpack's original stiffness and colour intensity. We can provide bars of wax and extra advice for this process, just get in touch at james@takuroapparel.com
Note Please always try the wax on a smaller area of the bag before using it on the entire product If your backpack gets really dirty, do not put it in the washing machine. Dirt can usually be removed with a damp cloth and some mild soap.

Cordura®

This super tough and hardwearing fabric is made from 1100 denier nylon by a British manufacturer with a global reputation. The fabric is then coated with a waterproof membrane and is accredited as genuine Cordura® by the Invista corporation, which recognises its long-lasting durability and resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs. Only the toughest and finest quality fabrics get this stamp of approval. As Cordura® is such a tough and long lasting material, it's generally very easy to care for. Dirt and marks can be removed by brushing when dry or with a damp cloth and detergent. Avoid chlorine or bleach based cleansers.

Cotton

The Summit Tee is made from 100% organic cotton which is safe to machine wash on a cool setting. We recommend turning the Tee inside out to help protect the screen printed design. Never tumble dry as this can result in shrinkage.

Cashmere

Nature's softest and warmest material, cashmere is a special fabric and should be treasured, it can last a lifetime if it's looked after properly. We recommend handwashing our cashmere shawls in moderately warm water and using a small about of shampoo. Then gently spread it out on a flat surface to dry. Cashmere is a rare and delicate fabric and should never be machine washed or used with detergents.

Lambswool

Our Naur Wool hats are made from 100% pure Scottish lambswool. This is the soft, first fleece sheered when a lamb is roughly seven months old. It is soft to touch, warm and naturally breathable. To keep your hat happy and looking good for years to come we recommend hand-washing it in luke warm water and wool wash solution. Do not use regular detergent as this will deteriorate the wool fibres. When finished gently squeeze out the excess water and leave to air dry. Don not tumble-dry.

Leather

If cared for regularly, leather is one of the longest lasting, and therefore most sustainable fabrics available. Over time, it softens and adapts to how you wear and use it. If it needs cleaning, dirt should be gently removed using a damp microfibre cloth and left to dry naturally, away from direct sunlight or strong heat. To protect the leather from drying out and cracking, we recommend using a leather wax or leather moisturiser.
